Just zips! – 3 different types and how to insert them…

This morning workshop is just about zips – all the different types which to use where and taking the fear out of how to insert them.

Easy to follow instructions and demonstrations given stage-by-stage on how to insert three different types of zip: centred, lapped and concealed (invisible) zip.  Each student will come away with their own samples and full instructions to refer back to.  All materials provided.

Dressmaking Part 1 – Make a Skirt from Scratch

A great way to start your sewing adventure – designed to show you practical techniques and tips you’ll use again and again.  You’ll come away with, not just a skirt, but confidence and skills for your next project!

Taking you step-by-step through measuring, cutting, fitting and making up of a basic ‘A’-line skirt.

In guided steps we will cover the following, backed up with handouts and demonstrations as we go along:

  • preparing your pattern for a better fit
  • layout out, cutting and preparing the fabric
  • …through to sewing up and hand-finishing

Suitable for those who’ve attended ‘Ready to Sew?’ and ‘Sewing for the Terrified’.

Fab Fitting Part 1 – Measuring Up

In this workshop we’ll be taking all the body measurements needed to ensure your perfect garment fit – BEFORE you cut out your fabric.

Each student will be taught how to measure properly and take over 20 personal body measurements.  Demonstrations and in-depth guidance will be given on how to translate these measurements to the garment pattern and how to change the pattern to ensure a better fit.

Fab Fitting Part II – Creating New Designs

How to get more out of the patterns you already have. 

In this workshop we show how, by manipulating pattern pieces, you can create a myriad different designs from a basic bodice and skirt pattern.

Demonstrations with handouts and practical ‘playing’ time on quarter size pattern pieces ensures that students have samples and notes they can refer back to at a later date.

Ready to Sew? … Getting Started

All the things you need to know before you sew. This workshop covers all the things no-one tells you, to ensure a happy outcome to your sewing project! 

We cover everything to get you started: tips on how to choose the right pattern for your shape, what to look for in a fabric, decoding the instruction sheet and pattern pieces – what all the symbols and terminology means, through to laying up the pattern pieces on your fabric.

The class is a mixture of theory, demonstrations and discussions
